Below is an example of the Karvonen formula for a 23 year old person with a resting heart rate of 65 beats per minute (*to get your resting heart rate, take your pulse for 20 seconds then times it by 3):
220 - 23 (age) = 197
197 - 65 (resting heart rate) = 132
132 * 65% (low end of heart rate) OR 85% (high end) = 85.8
OR 112.2
85.8 + 65 (resting heart rate) = 150 112.2 + 65 (rhr) = 177
The target heart rate zone for this person would be 150 to 177
For this person to work in his 'fat burning' zone, he would need to stay around 150 beats per minute or lower. To work within his 'cardio' zone, he would need to work at 150 bpm or higher.
Cardio exercise is different when you're pregnant, depending on where you are in your pregnancy.
Pregnant people please participate only after you've allerted me to your 'condition'. It's no big deal but I need to know and then I'll get you to write a waiver - which states - You understand you will Not sue me, and you'll keep monitoring your hear rate and you'll keep it under 60 beats per minute.
Please allow me to understand your physical needs and understand I must know if you are pregnant. This will change your workout and I am happy to discuss your needs. Not only do we need to make life comfortable, but we will need to know what sort of cravings your having. It will help me understand what lumps and bumps are the baby's and what are the coal peanut butter munchies you've been stashing.
